The Fire Marshal’s Office of the Northeast Guilford Fire Department (NGFD) serves a critical role in ensuring the safety of our community through proactive fire prevention, thorough investigation, and community fire education. This division stands at the front lines of code enforcement, hazard mitigation, and public safety awareness.
Our mission is to reduce the risk of fire, protect life and property, and investigate incidents with accuracy and integrity. We strive to educate the community, enforce fire codes, and support the NGFD in creating a safer environment for residents and responders alike.
Our vision is a community where fires are rare, preventable, and rapidly mitigated, built on a foundation of public awareness, safety compliance, and inter-agency cooperation.
The Fire Marshal Division oversees:
Fire Investigations — Determining the origin and cause of fires, collaborating with law enforcement and arson units as needed.
Inspections & Code Enforcement — Conducting fire safety inspections of businesses, government buildings, and high-risk properties to ensure compliance with fire codes and safety regulations.
Permit Issuance — Managing fire safety permits for events, controlled burns, fireworks displays, and hazardous materials handling.
Public Education & Outreach — Promoting fire safety through school visits, public seminars, and seasonal awareness campaigns.
Hazard Identification — Partnering with other divisions to identify fire hazards, recommend solutions, and implement long-term prevention strategies.
Fire Alarm/Suppression System Support — Assisting buildings & communities with Fire Alarm/Suppression system placements & planning.
From routine inspections to complex investigations, the Fire Marshal’s Office plays a vital role in keeping the public safe. We believe that the best fire is the one that never happens, and we work tirelessly to identify risks before they become tragedies.
Our team works hand-in-hand with our engine companies, training staff, and community leaders to build a culture of safety, preparedness, and prevention.
